Afro-Jazz Orchestra

Gigs.

" The originality and diversity of his work are found in the complementarity of European and African instruments to build a repertoire that speaks to everyone. "

Ye Lassina Coulibaly  favors unpublished repertoires and works, as well as innovative and original interpretations. Its ambition is to play unknown or neglected works, in order to bring them back to life and make them known to the general public. One of its objectives is to break down the barriers between people to make way for the simple happiness of being together while listening to cross-cultural music.  Its concerts are intended to bring together, to forge links between musicians and audiences of all ages, between Africa and the West.

This is how Yé Lassina Coulibaly composes Afro-jazz music, a mixture of African and European sounds, as a Franco-Burkinabe, because the man and the artist believe in the harmonious coexistence of cultures and languages, without as much to deny its attachment to the cultural values of its soil, its country, its continent of origin, but far from any sectarianism and ethnomusicology. His concerts always approach the repertoire in an original way, placing the music in its historical, artistic, social context, through research  depth on vocal and instrumental aesthetics.

We should also mention his collaboration with several professional structures: Buda Musique, Cinq Planètes, L'autre distribution, Rue Stendhal, etc.

Should we recall the values that underlie the universal dimension of his work?

First of all, solidarity and generosity. A follower of living together, Yé Lassina Coulibaly believes "hard as iron" in the extraordinary capacity and strength of music to bring together people of diverse origins but also endowed with different artistic qualities.

Then, openness to all cultures without fear of losing one's identity:

“Those who are rooted in their culture and their history are not afraid of openness, on the contrary, they thrive on it! ".

And then the sharing with the public, the transmission of know-how to young people and exchanges between generations. We call on cultural institutions, elected officials in charge of the well-being of their fellow citizens, to help us promote this original repertoire.

Listening to the realities of the world and the evolutions of society, he is also keen, through the texts of his songs, to address the themes that are close to his heart: health, education and instruction, respect for the elderly, birth, violence against men but also nature (deforestation, drought, etc.).

Actor and agent of interculturality, man of sharing and conviction, Yé Lassina Coulibaly is above all an artist in constant search of aesthetics and innovation. He offers us, with his concerts, an anthology of musical works succeeding in the subtle alchemy of the splendor of African melodies and the richness of European sounds.
